the stunned disbelief of parrots

Yesterday BF finished the parrot porch. Pretty much everything was wrong down to the door being hung incorrectly, but it's all fixed up now, and this morning we moved the parrots in. I could hear Cookie purring to himself as I puttered around the yard.
Hummingbird Report: The wave of Ruby-Throat migrants continues. I saw or heard several squeaky scuffles as I worked outside this morning.

Just got a visit at the Cardinal Climber by a Black Swallowtail. A few days ago, I had a Pipevine Swallowtail.
There are three Ruby-Throats right now -- two fighting adult males at the near feeder, a female at the trumpet honeycreeper along the fence. One of the male Ruby-Throats even dived at the butterfly. They do not play well with others.

I have identified another giant dragonfly species in the yard, the Common Green Darner. A male was trying to latch onto a female while they were standing on the deck, so I had time to study them. They did not take off and start flying together until they were already attached. I think I may have believed that the males caught the females in the air and latched on in flight, but not so -- at least not for this pair.
