page 28 of the online mineral museum: king of the cabinet, a huge, honkin' unbelievable oversized BLUE tampa bay agatized coral geode like you have never seen

More rare than any Emerald. More valuable than all of the Rubies in my collection combined. The rare old-school BLUE Tampa Bay agatized coral geode, and I've got one the size of a man's head. More than just a large, lovely coral that grew in a shallow sea, it's a large, lovely coral that went on to "coral heaven" by being replaced in death completely by this beautiful, undyed, naturally blue Agate. Talk about a looker. The blue is so intense in spots that it looks almost unreal in the photo, but I'm looking at the piece right now and, I assure you, it's very real.

That's a six inch ruler in the photo to give you an idea of the size. Came from an estate -- in fact, it was one of the items in the box that DH bought from the Kenner "fire agate" widow in 1990 as a result of a classified ad. She wanted to sell her deceased husband's cut and polished Fire Agate gems individually, but she just wanted to clear out the big box of his various "collectibles." Wow. This big ole boy was surely the pride of his collection...and now it has become mine. Let's just say that it went to a good home, where it is truly the king of the mineral cabinet.

Florida is not very old, and this fossil dates roughly from 20 to 30 million years ago.
