Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

bald eagle and what parrots like to see in a space opera

2004-05-13 - 8:58 a.m.

Bald Eagle Alert: Holy Cow, I was looking at one of the soaring Mississippi Kites and noticed a much larger bird coming from low, so I couldn't see it at first very clearly through the trees. Then it very cooperatively lifted up and circled a few times over the Light Polluter's house. Bald Eagle!!! It was a young one. I don't know if I've ever seen one down here in May before.

We finally got the torrential rains last night. I hope that's it for flood watches for awhile. We only watch one TV program a week, and this year it's Enterprise, so I was joking with Cookie that he would psychically make the power go out just before the end. It's sort of a running gag that anything weather-related that goes wrong is a trick of Cookie's, because he has a twisted psittacine sense of humor. But this time the joke was on me, because a few minutes before the end of the program, lightning struck somewhere and the power did go out -- fortunately for only a minute though.

Despite all the fireworks, the story didn't hold Cookie's interest. Usually, he just watches any show for about half an hour and then dozes off. If you want a parrot to sit up and take notice, you will need to write in more of those anti-gravity shower scenes.

Unfortunately, we're getting near the end of this space opera, and I think it's going to be battle scenes from here on out, so Cookie will just have to adjust.

later

If it's 4 P.M. it must be time for the Mississippi Kites to do the dirty in the tall pine tree.

Hummingbird Report: I'd hardly sat down before a male RTHU came to chase a female away from the feeder.

I'm only a little jealous because on Monday a Green Violet-Eared Hummingbird stopped by a feeder at Sunset, Louisiana and posed for photographs by one of the local hummingbird experts.
