I believe that the Carolina Wrens might be nesting under the deck. A couple of female Red-Winged Blackbirds are playing in the pond. Quote of the Day: "Is it Vietnam yet?" -- political cartoonist Daryl Cagle. later I was planting more herbs -- tarragon, wormwood (a friend says it fights moths), dill, borage -- and some of the new hummingbird plants -- the red Salvia van Houttii, vervain, cardinal climber. I encountered several earthworms in the once worthless soil of the hummingbird garden, and I also encountered a pale, sleepy hibernating tree frog which clung to my hand for a moment before leaping away. It was my second tree frog of the spring, but the first was busily disappearing down a Carolina anole's mouth, so I'm not sure if that one counts. I actually meant to buy cypress vine, instead of the cardinal climber, but I got the plants confused at the nursery. They are in the same genus, but I have the perhaps mistaken impression that the cardinal climber is some sort of hybrid or modern invention. brag of the day Whoo hoo!
