By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

Hummingbird Report: A moment ago, I got my first hummingbird since my return -- a female/immature Ruby-Throat (at least I assume that it's an RT since not too many Black-Chins have been reported yet) with a dot on its head from banding. A very active bird that sampled feeder, Crimson Climber, Mistflower (briefly), and even my "van hooties." I don't know why, but I always get a kick out of it when they use a shade flower like my "van hooties."

It has been a very active 15 minutes in the backyard, with lots of dash and color. I think my best bird was a bright male Pine Warbler, but I had the whole rainbow -- Blue Jay, Cardinal, male House Finch, the hummer, the Pine Warbler -- as well as the more muted tones of Mourning Dove, Tufted Titmouse, and Carolina Chickadee.

about five minutes later

My hummingbird is back, and he is a little immature male RT who decided that he couldn't resist the Mexican Cigar and my new Giant Cigar plants.

around 10 AM

While black can't be counted as part of the rainbow, red and yellow certainly can, and a beautiful male Red-Winged Blackbird just stopped by to flash his epaulettes and remind me to add him to the morning's list.

around 3 PM

Carolina Wren and a talented singing Northern Mockingbird should be added to today's yard list. Lots of butterflies too.
