part 7 of our point pelee, ontario trip report: warblers!
2007-05-08 - 8:03 p.m.
photos 2007 by elaine radford
lake erie in the morning at the tip
Whoo hoo, big day at the park. New trip birds added:
- Blue-Winged Warbler
- Scarlet Tanager
- Tennessee Warbler
-
Canada Warbler
- Lincoln's Sparrow -- yes, up close and personal, this one was the real thing
- White-Eyed Vireo
- Magnolia Warbler
- Indigo Bunting
- Hooded Warbler
- Gray Catbird
- Swainson's Warbler
- Worm-Eating Warbler
- Eastern Phoebe
- Bay Breasted Warbler
- Orchard Oriole
- Chestnut Sided Warbler
- Northern Parula
Actually, I kept a list of the day's birds, not just the "new" birds -- and it was a lot.
I'll post them at home after I can put them in taxonomic order. Let's just say, that
it was a beautiful day, from start (Great Horned Owlets) to finish (Northen Parula in a rainstorm
of warblers along the road out of the park). Watch this space, and I'll soon post the taxonomic order of birds seen on the trip (and on this day) as well as my Ontario trip photos. Until then, you may salivate in envy.
Don't laugh, but as an ego boo, it just so happened that when the Eastern Phoebe flew in, I was the only "expert" around who could help the tourists get the ID. Not a glamor bird, but what the hey -- a bird I've often seen on the old stomping grounds. Just don't ask me about the Empidonax we saw!
