some madagascar butterfly species

Note: Don't miss my trip report from Madagascar. To my knowledge, we are the first tour to
see Madagascar Serpent-Eagle, amongst other brags. To start with part one, Ranomafana,
continue with part two, Ampijoroa,
3, Masaola, is here.
Part 4 is
right here.
Here's the
bird list, and here's
the lemur list.
And if you still haven't had enough,
click here for my one day birding spree of johannesburg
Just caught a Carolina anole, a large one, snoozing in my make-up basket and put him out on the bird porch.
Jesus, I feel like an idiot leaving a happy cheery butterfly post, and I just this minute found out about the two doctorate students being killed in a home invasion in Baton Rouge. I already learned yesterday evening about the two bodies being dumped on I-12. This crap is getting entirely out of hand. I don't understand why we can't get some National Guard or FBI or whatever down here to do something about the gang activity. I felt safer in Johannesburg. There was also a huge gun battle over a bank robbery Uptown right in the middle of the day. Fortunately, the dickweeds managed not to kill anybody, but it's still totally uncalled for.
Same song, second verse, as yesterday -- in no way, shape, or form have I run out of
Madagascar photos. I'm just running a little short on time.
Today why not a review of butterflies?
a very common species, especially in the forested area of berenty, which is
where i photographed this one
i don't have a way to present a good sense of scale for the big guy, but it was so large
that at first i thought it was a bat, it's on a didierea branch, way high up
ho-kay, a re-run, and people paying attention already know this is two
butterflies doing the dirty at ankarafantsika, but with that cute pink male,
who can resist seeing it again?
